Geography of Rutland, Vermont
Rutland is located at (43.60889, 72.97972) 43°36′32′′N 72°58′47′′W. Rutland, county, western Vermont, U.S. It is bounded by New York state (the border formed in part by Lake Champlain and the Poultney River) and the Taconic Mountains to the west and by the Green Mountains to the east. The county is bisected north-south by Otter Creek, the longest stream in Vermont.
The city has a total area of 7.67 square miles (19.9 km2), of which 7.6 square miles (20 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2), or 0.52%, is water, according to the United States Census Bureau. Otter Creek, Moon Brook, Tenney Brook, East Creek, and Mussey Brook all drain Rutland.

There were 7,167 dwelling units, with a 94.49/sq mi (289.0/km2) average density. 95.9% of the population was White, 0.8% was African American, 0.3% was Native American, 0.8% was Asian, 0.1% was Pacific Islander, 0.3% was from other races, and 1.8% was a mixture of two or more races. 1.5% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino, regardless of race.
