Troy is the county seat of Rensselaer County in the U.S. state of New York. The city is situated on the eastern bank of the Hudson River and the western edge of Rensselaer County. The region surrounding Troy, Albany, and Schenectady is commonly known as the Capital District. The city is one of the three major centers of the 1,170,483-person metropolitan statistical area of Albany. At the time of the 2020 census, Troy had a population of 51,401. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest private engineering and technical university in the United States, was founded in 1824 in Troy. It is also the location of Emma Willard School, an all-girls high school founded by Emma Willard, a women's education activist who wanted to create an equal school for girls and boys. Due to the confluence of major waterways and a geography that supported water power, the American industrial revolution took hold in this region around the turn of the 20th century, making Troy reputedly the fourth-wealthiest city in America. Troy is renowned for its abundance of Victorian architecture in the city center and its elaborate private residences in various neighborhoods. Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, is a performance space in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The music hall, renowned for its acoustics and an Odell concert organ, is operated by a not-for-profit organization. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989 for its architecture as one of the finest surviving 19th-century auditoriums.
Troy Waterfront Farmers Market
Held every Saturday, year-round, the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market is one of the most popular attractions in New York’s Capital Region.
From May through October, the market transforms the heart of downtown Troy into an open-air street festival that could easily pass for a scene in Europe. On the busiest Saturdays, as many as 15,000 people visit the market to shop for fresh local produce, meats, seafood, prepared foods and handmade crafts. Couples, families, college students and neighborhood regulars all mingle in Monument Square and on the surrounding streets, milling around between the tents, sidewalk tables and music stages. From November to April the market moves inside to the Troy Atrium.
Joseph L. Bruno Stadium
Joseph Bruno Stadium is a stadium located on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. It is the home field of the Tri-City ValleyCats minor league baseball team of the independent Frontier League and previously the New York–Penn League. Located in the center of the tri-city area of New York's Capital Region, it was named after former New York State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, who helped secure the funds for the ballpark.
